When the trainer showed up they where perfect little girls...As the trainer backed Dakota everyone held their breathes but Dakota walked on like an old pro, the trainer even added Leannehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11506694247923543367noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-27479817.post-82362126259811537242010-12-03T15:41:00.003-05:002010-12-03T16:29:54.350-05:00Amazed at how many crooked "horse" people there areWell it's been awhile, but I'm back. We have been having problems with the new horses eye, and today again the vet just left. Penny our new little girl, has UVitis again. this is the third time and we are getting worried. The vet never said it was cronic Uvitis, but it looks pretty cronic to me. We just have to watch her and treat it as soon as we see her eye contracting. We bought Penny a Leannehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11506694247923543367noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-27479817.post-20613602123872175562010-11-23T16:12:00.005-05:002010-11-23T16:37:24.486-05:00wowfirst person to back Dakota .... Penny and I have been getting along great, I even tried a lope with her the other day. Since I've been on last I found yet another trainer, the last one kind Leannehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11506694247923543367noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-27479817.post-75785096336710732432009-09-25T16:12:00.004-04:002010-03-09T17:25:42.731-05:00Feels so good to be riding againSunday night started a bit rough, Penny was fussing when I tried to saddle her up, but once the saddle was on we were good to go. I started out being led by my husband once around the ring then I asked him to unhook me and step back. Penny and I had a great ride, just walk trot but I rode. I was so happy to be on a horse again. The next day I sure did feel it, every muscle in my body hurt... Penny is such a sweet little mare and a pleasure to ride. I am taking baby steps since my fall. I'm still riding attached to the lead line but I have trotted around by my self on her. I'm still getting to know her. Joey is for sale. I just can't handle anymore. Working with Joe has completely taken away my confidence. He's too much of a horse for me to handle and it's time I face the music. We contacted the owner of his father and they are not interested in taking him .... figures, they don't want to take him and they train horses and riders...... hmmmm, they would Leannehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11506694247923543367noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-27479817.post-8758796731074632892008-08-29T20:22:00.003-04:002008-08-29T20:35:33.998-04:00Starting over with Joe....again'Well it's been 11 days since my fall off Joe, I'm still a little sore but nothing I can't work through. This week hasn't been that great, lots of stress and worry and yesterday I hadn't stopped all day and was tired, I think my state of mind had alot to do with the lousy ride. yesterday was the first time up on Joey since my fall and it didn't go so well. I walked him out of the barn and Leannehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11506694247923543367noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-27479817.post-7701104474224439002008-08-22T08:56:00.004-04:002008-08-22T09:51:58.169-04:00An Interesting monthWell I found a new trainer and she is working out great, she is focussing right now on keeping Joey happy which is a good thing. When she first started she wasn't really making him work, just feeling him out. She noticed that he didn't like his mouth pulled or any leg and if you did he would get mad and she didn't want to make him angry she just wanted a happy horse. Well he's been doing Leannehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11506694247923543367noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-27479817.post-58446499685046027842008-06-27T17:56:00.002-04:002008-06-27T18:09:45.510-04:00Joey's trainingWell my husband found someone to train Joey. She really impressed my husband when he was talking to her, but it was me she had to prove herself too. Well prove herself she did. She came over a couple of Saturdays ago to meet him and try him out. We had about a half hour befor the farrier came and I figured there was no way she was going to ride him, it would take at least 15 minutes to put Leannehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11506694247923543367noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-27479817.post-87771662644124657742008-06-05T08:36:00.002-04:002008-06-05T08:42:59.964-04:00Vet visitTuesday, we had the vet out for checkups, vaccinations, teeth and wormer, I know we are a little late, but at least its done. I was so stressed out about this visit because of the floating of the teeth. Dakota got hers done last year so I wasn't worried about her, it was Joey I knew they were going to have to use that big nasty looking metal thingy they put it their mouth to keep it open and I Leannehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11506694247923543367noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-27479817.post-10234951618902317682008-06-05T08:25:00.003-04:002008-06-05T08:36:30.421-04:00Horses in the riding ring for the first time.Well monday morning was quit a morning. We decided to try and get the horses use to being in the riding ring and I'm happy to say every thing went well. There was alot of snorting and running for the first 10 minutes and then they where fine. They were still a little jumpy but all they wanted to do was eat. I worried for nothing......again. We left them in for a couple of hours and then put them Leannehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11506694247923543367noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-27479817.post-81913092035394516392008-05-11T08:11:00.004-04:002009-09-25T16:19:48.431-04:00Finally a little time to myselfSorry I haven't been posting much lately but alot has happened in the past month and I had no time. Since we brought the horses home, I have never left them, I am always around for feeding and bringing them it, this month I was away for long periods of time that of which I had no choice. My husband works long hours and he needed help so we had to rely on my neighbors and a close friend of ours. My riding ring has no puddles and is drying very nicely. the paddock around the barn is pretty good too none of that sticky heavy mud, so I guess I won't be falling on my butt this year lol, or getting my boots stuck and not being able to move. The horses will be happy to, they won't have those mud balls weighing their tales down. I think everyone is happy about that, including the horses. We found this year to be a hard winter, with way too much snow. The snow was so high this year it reached the top of the fences in some spots. We couldn't use the riding ring this year either because of the snow. We were not expecting that much. We also had problems with the electrics through the Leannehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11506694247923543367noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-27479817.post-20985653624283346432008-03-23T09:08:00.002-04:002008-03-23T09:11:36.901-04:00Happy EasterHi Everyone, Just wanted to wish you all a Happy Easter.Leannehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11506694247923543367noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-27479817.post-30217979883707572322008-03-21T13:51:00.002-04:002008-03-21T13:58:13.285-04:00LungeingLungeing, an important factor in training a horse. Well I have one problem, which is a pretty big problem when you think about it. Okay , picture it, I go out to the barn and get all the equipment I need to lunge an 1100 lbs animal, catch the horse hook him up to the lunge line, the minute I push him out to start he starts galloping and bucking. After the first couple of rounds, I am having a Leannehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11506694247923543367noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-27479817.post-41083409157680944672008-03-21T13:40:00.002-04:002008-03-21T13:49:05.042-04:00Pet PeeveOkay, this is going to be short and sweet. If you can't afford vet care or food for your animals, then give them away to a good home that can. Having animals especially horses can get very expensive. Why can't people do a little more research into what is involved in caring for their animals. I think if people knew what was involved they would think twice. Animals don't just need a home they Leannehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11506694247923543367noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-27479817.post-62594599245565280172008-03-16T17:42:00.002-04:002008-03-16T18:01:10.890-04:00ColicWhat a scarey thing to see your horse rolling in pain. Well it's happened to us 4 times since Dec 23. Vets don't know what the problem is. We haven't changed anything. same amount of feed, same time, same hay, same everything. Vets are thinking it is the change in temp from mild to very cold by 4 pm. we watch him very close now. I give him a syringe of medicine every night and it seems toLeannehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11506694247923543367noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-27479817.post-62589309646463050412007-11-17T19:15:00.000-05:002007-11-17T19:32:10.859-05:00Australian SaddlesI finally got my new saddle. It's an Australian Saddle with the horn, kind of a cross between a western saddle and an English saddle. When it arrived I took it out of the box and was a little confused... where do you attach the stirrups? I went online and looked it up, There are two metal hooks on the top of the saddle, the stirrups just hang on the hooks. If you fall off the horse and you Leannehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11506694247923543367noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-27479817.post-84198013882368943382007-11-17T18:54:00.000-05:002007-11-17T19:15:17.398-05:00ColicWell we had an interesting day,,, Joey had a bad case of Colic. He was is so much pain it was hard to watch. He was fine in the morning, so I thought. He ate his breakfast then went out and was eating his hay when we left. We were gone about an hour and when we came back he was laying in the overhang near the barn, when I went up to him he got up but was acting a little funny, he started Leannehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11506694247923543367noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-27479817.post-2462036672389639552007-11-09T09:19:00.000-05:002007-11-09T09:27:28.980-05:00Long timeWow,,it's been a long time since I posted anything. So much has happened. Last time I posted I was having problems with Joey, well not anymore. I am not sure what changed but he is being an angel. We don't fight anymore I think I have gained his respect. He listens so well now and is not pushy anymore (well he does have his moments but who doesn't) We have finally finished the riding ring.Leannehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11506694247923543367noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-27479817.post-1164374696765903452006-11-24T08:19:00.000-05:002006-11-24T08:24:56.776-05:00FrustratedWell I am completely frustrated....again. Joey and I have been fighting every night , he doesn't look happy. he always has his ears pinned at night when I try to do any thing with him. What do I do, he is just crusty ever since Dakota's accident. I love him to death.........but. I am thinking of getting a vet in to check him over. He doesn't like to be brushed anymore. How do you do it. I am having some problems with Joe Joe.. Usually he is pretty good. exept sometimes in the morning and at night. In the morning ,, I am not sure if he is playing or just not listening. when we try to put the halter he tries to bit it and then tries to nip me , most of the time it is just with his lips no teeth. At night for Leannehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11506694247923543367noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-27479817.post-1160664078804180442006-10-12T10:23:00.000-04:002006-10-12T10:41:18.856-04:00Saddened by some peopleYesterday I lost a little faith in people. There was a story on the news about an older gentleman who left his horses in a field to die,, just because he wanted some sort of tax break. There were 18 horses, that where basically starving to death. On the Heneke scale some of the horses where a one.. close to death. This man was not even charged with anything. What is wrong with people today.Leannehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11506694247923543367noreply@blogger.com0
